Jo was originally designed as a GUI and light data layer for the PhoneGap framework.

Since then it was migrated to its own codebase and now can be used as a stand-alone solution for mobile app development (via HTML 5).

Outside HTML 5, Jo also features support for CSS 3, allowing easy tweaking of the user interface just by modifying basic CSS settings.

Jo has been tested successfully as a lightweight framework for mobile browsers, newer desktop browsers, and even dashboard widgets.
